Who will deliver me? A cry of a bonded laborer
David and his wife are bonded laborers for few decades. From their childhood they are in chamber, making bricks. Their only daughter is also married to a bonded laborer working in the same chamber. They do not know any other job. They are from Cuddalore district but now working in Vellavedu of Tiruvallur district.
This district has more than 500 chambers and in Vellavedu, around 50 chambers are there. In this chamber there are 35 families are working. The sad thing is that all of them are bonded laborers. David and his wife are bonded for 15000 rupees (around $ 4000). Now they work to pay back that money.
Now due to the heavy work and not having proper food David is not able to walk and he cannot do anything for many months. He needs his wife help for basic needs. In this sorrowful condition, his wife is also falling sick often now. Today we went to meet her, as she was on the road walking towards hospital. we talked to her about her life. She said her life is in miserable condition.
She gets around $ 6 per week as her wage and she is finding it difficult to care her sick husband, provide food and manage her own health. She was lamenting, who will deliver me?
She now wants to go back to her native place with her husband and want to live a free life. But she don't know when she will see the light in her dark world. She was looking at us desperately to escape from this damnation - not knowing when this will happen?
Raj! These posts are SO helpful! We're using them already to train our teams, and i'm so grateful that you're being so intentional about helping us to see and experience the kinds of environments that are "on the ground"!
As always, we are so grateful to be working with you, praying for you, and keeping you in our hearts! Thanks for staying so diligent for the service of our Lord in bringing "unga to inga"!
